Lucie recently received a promotion at work and quickly started looking for a one bedroom apartment! She has been living in her charming studio for two and a half years and she and Louise were ready for some more space. She found a lovely place in the same arrondissement (the 2nd) and was persistent with the landlord about making it happen. She received the exciting news that she got the place while we were in Eygalieres and, of course, Bucky and I offered to come to Paris to help her move.
The move took place over the weekend of May 14th which also happened to be my birthday AND Mother's day. The original plan was for Lucie to sleep at the new place and for me and Bucky to sleep at the studio. The landlord at the new place, however, was slow to get the apartment ready so while en route to Paris, I searched for a place for Bucky and me to stay. I had always wanted to stay at Hotel Bachaumont, a pretty hotel right by Lucie's studio and they had space so I made plans to spend the weekend there. It was my birthday after all!
We spent most of the weekend hauling things from apartment to apartment, but we did take time to enjoy some meals together. We also took some time to take my Uncle Hank's (aka Charlie's) ashes to the Palais Royal. Barb had given us a little container of them and wanted us to spread them in Paris. We had such a memorable visit together in Paris in 2010 and it was nice to take him back there.
Lucie spends lots of time in Palais Royal, reading, working and painting or sketching. It is a lively place filled with people soaking up the sun, kids playing with boats in the fountain and lot and lots of trees and flowers.
We found the perfect place, a quiet space next to a majestic tree in the middle of the hussle and bussle. Bucky read a short piece provided by Barb, "We have gathered here today to lay Charlie's remains in one of his final resting places. Give me back into the Earth so that I will be part of all you see: the growing trees, the bursting buds and the falling leaves."
While he spread his ashes, we all shed a few tears. The ice cream guy was just across the way selling ice cream and we know Hank/Charlie would have liked that. Afterwards, I asked Bucky to pose in the middle of the allee of trees and I took his picture. When I looked at the picture, I realized that Bucky wasn't in the middle. He was off center and I realized that was because Hank/Charlie was standing right beside him.
