After the weekend of Lucie's move, Bucky headed back to Kehl and I stayed in Paris. Lucie was going out of town with friends so I planned to stay at her new apartment to watch Louise. My sister, Kate, was also heading over for a visit, so she planned to arrive in Paris! We spent a long weekend together in the City of Lights, walking around, doing some touristy things (Bateau Mouches and Musee d'Orsay), but we mostly focused on eating great French food and people watching!
I took her to a vide grenier and a brocante where we bought some treasures for Lucie's new apartment. We also did some shopping including Kate buying a Paris Saint Germain Messi soccer jersey for our niece, Wren. It was an experience getting it (hauling ourselves to the Champs-Elysees and then standing in a long line to get Messi and 30 printed on it) but it was a great memory and we knew that Wren would be thrilled (which she was).
Lucie got home on Sunday night and Kate and I took the train to Kehl the next morning. She was with us in Germany for a week. She relaxed some, but also saw the sites in Strasbourg with Bucky while I worked. I was able to take a couple of days off and we visited Gengenbach, a lovely German town we have visited many times before and then we spent the weekend in the Alsace wine region. We went to a few little towns (Eguisheim, Riquewihr, Kayersberg) and spent a night in Colmar.
Of course we ate, drank and shopped our way through the Alsace. Kate did real damage at the Kathe Wohlfahrt Christmas store in Riquewihr. Kate loves Christmas so she was in heaven in the store. She also hit the Christmas store in Strasbourg so she is set for next December.
She flew out of Frankfurt so the day before she left, we drove up to Bad Homburg, a beautiful town outside of Frankfurt and spent the night. It was a great place to visit and I recommend to anyone who is visiting Frankfurt.
It was sad when Kate left, but I am so glad she came to visit. We had an amazing time in Paris and she loved us showing her our little part of Germany and Alsace. We ate lots, drank some and laughed a ton. Definitely a trip we will remember and reminisce about forever.
